Crochet Beginner Granny Coaster | Free Pattern + Video Tutorial

I am in my granny phase

I have been looking around the internet trying to find the perfect circular granny pattern. I tried a few pattern out that did not come out how I would have liked them to. So, I decided to make up my own pattern!

This granny pattern was designed for a coaste, but can be adapated for other items my just adding arounds; the thought of that is already inspiring me to make new designs!

Anyway! Let’s get’s started…

Material

  • Yarn
  • 3 mm crochet hook
  • Needle
  • Scissors

Stitches Used | Abbreviations

  • Magic Ring (MR)
  • Chain (ch)
  • Single crochet (sc)
  • Double crochet (dc)
  • * * – repeat sequence

Notes

  • Ch3 at the beginning of each round; unless stated otherwise. The ch3 counts as a dc.
  • The ( ) at the end of each round indicates the total number of stitches for that round.
  • The different yarn colors are labelled as Color A (lighter shade), Color B (darker shade), and Color C (white)

Pattern

  • Round 1: MR, [2dc, ch1]x6 (18)

Sl st in the 3rd ch of the ch3 and finish off.

Add Color B by inserting your hook into a ch space from Round 1 and pulling the yarn through.

  • Round 2: *[2dc, ch1, 2dc] in the chain space, ch1* all around (36)

Sl st in the 3rd ch and finish off. Add color A.

  • Round 3: *3dc in the chain space, ch1* all around (48)

Sl st in the 3rd ch and finish off. Add Color B.

  • Round 4: *3dc in the ch space, ch1, [2dc, ch1, 2dc] in the same ch space, ch1* all around (60)

Sl st in the 3rd ch and finish off. Add Color C.

  • Round 5: ch1, *sc* all around (60)

Sl st in the ch1 and finish off.

Aaaaand you’re done!
