📏 Measurements 📏

You can make the blanket as big as you want. The below pattern has a diameter of around 130cm; suitable for a throw blanket or a baby blanket.

Material

  • Acrylic yarn (I used around 4 and a half skeins of yarn, about XX)
  • 5.5 crochet hook
  • Scissors
  • Needle

Stitches Used | Abbreviations

  • Magic Ring (MR)
  • Slip Stitch (sl st)
  • Chain (ch)
  • Double Crochet (dc)
  • Increase (inc) – 2 st in 1 st
  • * * – repeat sequence
  • [ ] – in the same st

Notes

  • The ch3 at the beginning of each round counts as a dc.
  • The number in ( ) at the end of each round indicates the total number of stitches for that round.

Pattern

Round 1: MR, ch3 (counts as a dc), 11dc in the MR, sl st in the top of the ch3 to close the round (Total = 12)

Round 2: ch3 (counts as a dc), dc in the same st as the ch3, *dc inc* all around (Total = 24)

Round 3: ch3 (counts as dc), skip a st, *[dc, ch2, dc] in the same st, skip a st* repeat all around, until you have 1 st left, dc, ch2, sl st in the 3rd ch to close the round (Total = 48; 24dc and 12 ch2 spaces)

Round 4: sl st into ch 2 space, [ch3 (counts as a dc), dc, ch2, 2dc] in same ch 2 space, *sk 2 sts, [2dc, ch2, 2dc] in ch 2 spc* repeat until 1 st is left, sl st in top of the ch3 to close the round. Sk these 2 sts and sl st to top of the ch3 to close the round (Total = 72; 48dc and 12 ch 2 spaces)

Round 5: sl st in the next st, ch3 (counts as a dc), [2dc, ch2, 2dc] in the ch2 space, *dc, skip 2 st, dc, [2dc, ch2, 2dc] in the ch2 space* repeat all around until there’s 2 stitches left, dc, skip a st, sl st in the top of the ch 3 to close the round (Total = 96; 72dc and 12 ch2 spaces)

Round 6: sl st in the next st, ch3 (counts as a dc), dc, [2dc, ch2, 2dc] in the ch2 space, *2dc across, skip 2, 2dc across, [2dc, ch2, 2dc] in the ch2 space* repeat all around until you have 3 stitches left, 2dc across, skip a st, sl st in the top of the ch3 to close the round (Total = 120; 96dc and 12 ch2 spaces)

Round 7: sl st in the next st, ch3 (counts as a dc), 2dc, [dc, ch2, dc] in the ch2 space, *3dc, skip 2 st, 3dc, [dc, ch2, dc]* repeat all around until you have 4 stitches left, 3dc across, skip a st, sl st in the top of the ch3 to close the round (Total = 120; 96dc and 12 ch2 spaces)

NOTE: In Round 7, the point of the star is [dc, ch2, dc] instead of [2dc, ch2, 2dc]. This is going to be a decrease Round to make the blanket stop curling at the sides.

Moving forward, the pattern will have two normal rounds with the point of the star being [2dc, ch2, 2dc], followed by a decrease round with the point of the star being [dc, ch2, dc].

Repeat Rounds 5 through 7 until you reach the desired length. Keep in mind that each two normal rounds with the points of the star being [2dc, ch2, 2dc], the following Round will be a decrease Round with the points of the star being [dc, ch2, dc]. With each Round, the number of dc for the slopes will increase.

For the throw blanket size, I ended up making a total of 38 Rounds.

Aaaaaand you’re done!
